Sewing Circle

Woman’s Club Sewing Circle

The Woman’s Club of Lakeside Sewing Circle makes many wonderful items to donate to charities or sell to raise money for charities and expenses. The circle meets at the Olde Community Church in Lakeside almost every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You don’t need to sew to be part of this group; there are lots of projects you can work on. This is a wonderful group who visit while they work; it’s great fun and cheaper than therapy. The Sewing Circle is happy to accept donations of fabric and sewing/craft related items. Items we are not able to use are passed along to other groups.  Bring your lunch and join the fun.

Some of our projects:

Surgery Dolls are small stuffed dolls dressed in hospital gowns. They are donated to Balboa Hospital for pediatric patients.

Breast Cancer Pillows for mastectomy patients.  Currently going to Balboa Hospital.

Turtles for the Painted Turtle camp.  The Painted Turtle camp is a camp for children with serious medical conditions to celebrate just being kids! Through innovative, camp-based programs that offer a great big dose of fun and support, children with more than 73 medical conditions visit The Painted Turtle each year, reclaiming the joys of childhood. A member of Paul Newman’s renowned Serious Fun Camps the Painted Turtle has served over 51,000 children and their families through its Summer and Family Weekend camps since it opened its gates in 2004. We make turtle shaped pillows that are given to the children when they attend these camps.

Teddy Bears – Given to Gently Hugged, an organization that facilitates moving new and used baby items from those who no longer need the items, to those that do need them, and Care facilities

Fidget Quilts are small sensory quilts for passive, quiet personal entertainment. Given to Special Need and Care facilities.

Dog and cat beds are made using donated fabrics and stuffed with scraps of fabric and batting. They are donated to various rescue groups in East County.  Approximately 100 beds are donated each year.

Snuggle sacks, cuddle cups, cage accessories and items for sale in the gift shop for Wee Companions Small Animal Adoption, Inc – the only small animal rescue in San Diego. They rescue and care for small animals until the animals receive foster care or are adopted. These animals include guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, rats, mice and even chinchillas. The Sewing Circle makes fleece cage liners and pee pads of an array of sizes, using both new and gently used materials. Cage accessories such as hammocks, slings, tunnels, and curtains enhance the environment and provide a fun, interactive, and stimulating space for the animals.

Lap quilts are made throughout the year and donated to care facilities and other groups in December. Larger quilts are given to charities to be used as fundraisers.  If you know of a group who would like a quilt to use as a fundraiser, please contact Nancy at the number above. Quilts are also sold at Christmas on Maine and our annual Quilt show to raise money for the club.

Tote bags are made and donated to Stand Down South County for distribution along with toiletries and clothing to homeless veterans.

Handmade baby items – bibs, burb cloths, receiving blankets and quilts for Gently Hugged baby shower given by the Woman’s Club in January each year.

Handmade items are sold at Spirit of Christmas, an annual Lakeside Chamber of Commerce event promoting local businesses and welcoming the holiday season. The Woman’s Club booth promotes the club and offers great-for-gifting handmade boutique items for sale.
